The same can be said of Mike Reilly, who’s played with both B.B. King and Stevie Ray. Mike may not be black, but he knows the Blues, and he’s been playing them for a long time. Like Muddy Waters–another legend Mike’s shared the stage with–he’s still delivering ’cause he’s got a long memory.

Samuel Smith Band is a young blues rock quartet that actively plays the Salt Lake Bar scene.  The band is comprised of Dustin Swan, Joey Davis, Ren Pankovich and Sam Smith. Sam Smith Band is a swampy, blues-driven Rock ‘n’ Roll band that plays completely original Rock. Expect dancing!!!

Grammy nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step onto any stage, play those trademark licks that drove his seminal Commander Cody classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top Ten, and elicit instant recognition for a career that has spanned over 40 years and includes guitar work with Nick Lowe, Emmylou Harris, Doug Sahm, Elvis Costello and many more. Since Andrew Milne, Jared Phelps and Sammy Harper formed Spell Talk (2007) the band has quickly become one of the biggest fish in Salt Lake’s admittedly small-pond music scene. They first drew crowds with a brand of droney, blues-inflected psych rock, but their latest release, Spell talk’s September 2011 release TOUCH IT! which features the band’s new sound: rock n’ roll, raw, gritty and unadulterated.

Max Pain and the Groovies (2009-Present) is an experimental, rock and roll group from Salt Lake City. Starting with only two members in early 2009 they have now found the perfect combination to create this 5 piece energetic groovy bunch. The Chickens

The Chickens are Salt Lake City’s premiere all-instrumental groove factory. A no-frills combination of improvisational creativity and rhythmic bad-assitude, they have quickly developed into one of the most dynamic groups on the SLC music scene. The band is comprised of seven of Utah’s most prolific musicians, with musical backgrounds ranging from to Jazz and Country, to Reggae, Ska and Rock.

The Chickens were originally conceived as a strictly studio ensemble, but after a few recorded singles began to gain recognition by other local musicians, the requests for live shows started rolling in. Over the summer of 2011 the band started work on their debut album, and even before it has been officially released it has been generating quite a buzz around Salt Lake City, even receiving some airtime on local radio station KRCL.

The Chickens will be hosting a CD release party for their debut self-titled album on December 9th, 2011 at Bar Deluxe in Salt Lake City (666 So. State St.). They will be joined by another local favorite, Shaky Trade (from Ogden) and the festivities will be kicked off around 10 p.m. For fans of Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Afrobeat, this is a show that should not be missed.

The Weekenders, Glinting Gems Friday, May 4th $5

The Weekenders are a straight up Rock and Roll Band from Salt Lake City. Their debut album “Don’t Plan On” is to be released later this Spring 2012. Their inception started in 2009, when Rob created a small studio in his spare bedroom. He self produced music, one instrument, one track at a time playing guitar, bass, keys and drums. Within two years he recorded over 50 songs, but had no band. In 2010, it was time to make these songs a reality. After a few craigslist ads and several odd encounters, The Weekenders were formed. John Murphy on drums, Bob Melanson on bass and Rob Reinfurt on guitar and vocals.

Mistakenly separated at birth, chad and wes would go twenty plus years before being reunited in the most unusual of circumstances. chad remained in safe hands and led a normal life being raised by their mom. wes on the other hand, lived the duration of his life being raised by wolves and living in a hollowed out oak tree in the deep south woods. while chad was being prepped to become a legendary composer in the finest music institutions europe and the far east had to offer. wes wandered the thick humid woods of the south, in a pack they roamed, gaining wisdom on the intricate musical landscape that existed. the dirtiest blues, country, folk and all around insane storytelling one could ever imagine became his daily diet. wes absorbed all he could, in hopes that he would one day inject his style of american music into all whom came to listen. stay tuned, much more to come…
